Chapter 45 – The Plot Begins

"So what's the plan," Callisto sat back on the stool and rested her back against the edge of her bureau. "You say you want to expose the Straw Hat Pirates as criminals so you must have some kind of idea about how that's gonna work, right?"

Anik ignored the smug tone in Callisto's voice and went into great detail about the plot he was going to unleash on the Straw Hats. "Gustav asked us to acquire those Buggy Pirates and we're going to do that just as he ordered, but from there our mission objective will change significantly." He smirked and began to slowly pace back and forth while continuing to speak. "We can bring the pirates before him as he requested but we'll need to inform him of our desire to frame their group as the criminals they are."

A hand raised and stopped the taller soldier before he could finish his thoughts.  Callisto lowered her hand and cocked her head to the side with a wide smirk. "Just why would Gustav agree to this? I've been keeping up with everything going on around here and I know that he's greatly appreciative of those pirates for helping out two of our own."

"Because if I know Gustav then there's one thing he cares about more than justice," Anik remarked with an atrocious smirk of his own. "It's his position on that pedestal of his.  Gustav would give anything to keep his image of being a hero to these people even if it meant incriminating completely innocent bystanders."

Putting a hand in front of her mouth and laughing in a rather childish manner Callisto stood up and opened the door to the hallway quickly. "Let us be on our way then," she said while looking back at him. "We should make haste if we're going to find those pirates before they try and leave the island."

It did not take the two soldiers long to locate the vessel of the Buggy Pirates as they came upon the Big Top on the docks opposite to the one the Straw Hats were at.  Anik looked on with an expression of stoicism that showed he was not very impressed with what he was seeing.

"They don't seem to be much of a threat," he muttered and spat at the ground in disgust. "Damn pirates, all they're good for is being killed to make an example for the rest of their ilk.  Let's get this over with."

"After you," Callisto said immediately, following behind the larger man as they walked to the Big Top. "Show yourself Buggy the Clown! The Sentinels have come to apprehend you for the assault of fellow operatives Amol and Nae!" She shouted at the top of her lungs, startling even Anik with the high volume of her voice.

"Why did you even bother telling me to go ahead if you were just going to do that?" Anik demanded, scowling at her and looking ahead to see the crew of the clown pirate filing out from their vessel.

"W-What the hell do you think you're doing here," Buggy demanded but he quickly noticed that the two people were wearing the same uniforms as Amol and Nae. "So you flashy military punks are trying to harass me again? Didn't you learn anything from the utter failure of your friends!?"

In a single fluid movement Callisto moved unseen and was behind Buggy before he even realized that she moved.  The tricorn hat on his head was split down the middle and fell to either side as he turned around to see the woman behind him, a small bit of dribble sliding out from his nostril.

"We would like it if you came with us without incident," she said before turning to face Buggy, a sly smile on her face. "Our chief would like to have a word with you and if you're lucky you may just walk out of the situation alive."

Back at the Thousand Sunny all of the Sentinels infantry had been successfully transported back to their barracks with Robin's assistance.  She now stood before Amol and Nae in front of the headquarters with her arms folded along her stomach with her hands resting beneath her elbows.

"Sorry about all the trouble," Nae murmured sheepishly, not exactly keen on the idea of apologizing to pirates but Amol had ordered him to do it and he had no choice but to oblige to his demands. "I'll be sure to pick out some fine lodging for you and your comrades as soon as we report to the chief."

Smiling at the two of them, Robin placed a hand on her cheek. "That would be lovely," she said. "It would be a shame if we didn't get the best because I have no idea what may happen if your wounds get aggravated again." With that final statement she walked away, leaving a sense of morbidity hanging in the air above the two soldiers.  Truly she was a woman who did not mince words regardless of who she was speaking to.

As she was walking away Robin noticed two other members of the Sentinels returning to the headquarters with the Buggy Pirates in tow.  It was an unusual scene only because they were being lead along in front of the group with no handcuffs binding them.  Robin knew when something was awry but she could not very well go breaking into the tall skyscraper just to prove her suspicions so she went back to the Sunny without looking back again.

Within the walls of the Sentinels Headquarters Amol and Nae stood in Gustav's office giving the report in regards to the time they spent on the Straw Hats ship.  As soon as they finished the door opened up and Buggy along with his allies were lead into the room by Anik and Callisto.

"Ah good, you came," Gustav replied and leaned forward in his chair, interlocking his fingers in front of his face. "You brought the pirates that caused so much trouble here on the island."

"Indeed," Anik remarked and placed a hand on his hip while motioning toward the pirates with his hand. "We brought them to be apprehended but I have another suggestion about these pirates and the Straw Hats who are sitting at our dock."

Gustav stroked his chin and sat back in his chair, staring up at the ceiling and considering whether he should even hear Anik out because he knew that the Field Marshal had very intolerant thoughts about pirates. "Very well."

A wicked grin formed on Anik's face within his mind but he knew well enough to not show his emotion in front of Gustav so as not to expose his plan. "The people are crying for blood, Gustav," he began. "They are unhappy about the sympathy you're showing to these pirates and if you want your position as a hero to stay in tact, then we must administer swift punishment to the ones who started the trouble here! Not only was it the Buggy Pirates but it was the Straw Hat Pirates as well!"

Amol could not believe his ears and a look of pure shock was on his face while he listened to everything Anik said. "You cannot seriously be considering this, Chief!" he protested, thrusting his hands out to the side in anger and taking a step toward Gustav.  The Commander-in-Chief shot him an icy glare that caused the General to back down immediately.

"There was no irrefutable proof that the pirates did not cause any trouble at the shore along with the other rookies that landed here." Gustav looked over to the Buggy Pirates and suddenly got an idea that coincidentally coincided with Anik's plan. "It is in my firm belief that the Straw Hat Pirates are criminals and we will utilize our sources in these rowdy pirates to frame them." He clenched his hand into a fist and stood up suddenly. "My position will stand firm in the Sentinels until the end of time!"

While Amol was stunned and angry at the things he was hearing Nae had a huge smile on his face.  The idea of framing Luffy and his crew as criminals was something that he would definitely support even if his superior officer did not approve of his actions.  He watched wordlessly as Amol stormed out of the office, angrily slamming the door behind him.

"So, we have come to an accord I believe," Gustav stated after Amol left. "The Buggy Pirates will go and wreak havoc in town and make it look as if the Straw Hat Pirates did it before we apprehend them again, after which we will permit them to leave our island without trouble.  Anik will go and subdue Amol before he can go running his mouth to anyone and make sure none of the other soldiers will catch word of our plans."

Gustav stood at the window and looked down upon the city with a grin on his face. "The city will forever be in my power and I'm not going to be seen as a sympathizer for wicked pirates.  The Straw Hats will die by our hand!"
The Commander-in-Chief permits Anik's plan to conspire against the Straw Hat Pirates so he can keep his position of power over the city.
